UNION TOWN SQUARE

Public Survey #2
Focusing on community input from the first survey and prioritizing park amenities, Summit Architects + Engineers and MKSK displayed designs drafted for the Union Town Square park and city building at Union Celebrates America on June 28, 2024. The public was invited to take a second online survey: 2024 Survey Results

New Name
There has been a lot of confusion about the original Union Town Plan and reference to the Town Center vs. the new direction and current project. As a result of the Park Advisory Committee recommendation and Union City Commission approval, the Union Town Center project was renamed “Union Town Square”.  This development will include a large park/green space and a new City building. Look for the Future Site signage along US42.

Public Survey
The City of Union recently conducted a public survey asking our community questions about parks, green space, and wishes for the new Town Center.
Responses: 2023 Survey Summary

Formation of a Park Advisory Committee
The purpose of the City of Union Park Advisory Committee is to provide input and direction to the Commission specific to the design and development of the new Union Town Center.  The committee participates in meetings, workshops, and community outreach in partnership with City Staff, lead Commissioner, and design engineers. The Park Advisory Committee consists of 8 (eight) City of Union residents, each representing a different section/neighborhood within the city limits. (November 2023)

History
Originally, the Union Town Center was a key development area identified in the 2000 Union Town Plan which was formally adopted by the Boone County Planning Commission in May 2000.  The zoned Union Town Center refers to a 90-acre area located at the intersection of Mt. Zion Road and U.S. 42 in Union, Kentucky.  It consists of Union’s Old Business District along Old Union Road and future new business development at U.S. 42 and Mt. Zion Road.  View the Original Town Plan 2000.

On June 27, 2022, the City of Union purchased 22 acres located between US Route 42 and Old Union Road destined to be the site of the long-awaited Town Center. Discussions for the future Town Center include a new City Building, a large open park area, retail for smaller businesses, housing options, and walking trails around the new development.  Updates will be shared to this page as available.
